Did you know that regular potting mix is just a fancy marketing term for ground-up tree bark? (aka sawdust) It's good for the garbage pile, and NOT your precious succulents, ornamentals, houseplants, exotic fruit trees, herbs, raised gardens, flowers beds and trees! Most of the bark is pine, which has lots of chemicals in it (pine-sol/turpentine are made from pine) that are not good for plant roots. Pine bark literally have their own branch of chemistry. It's a forestry waste product that is light and convenient for the mega-corporations to package as 'good for container gardening.' When in reality it breaks down (decomposes) into a toxic mix good for the trash can within 3-6 months. It was NEVER MEANT to support plant roots! (Why would you plant a tree in ground-up dead trees?) To make a mix more 'premium' companies add peat moss. But look up blonde peat moss and then look at what is in your mix. The companies never add blonde peat moss, they add humus - a broken down version of peat moss. Anoother annoying problem with bark and broken down peat moss is that when they get dry they are really hard to get wet again. So companies need to add a chemical surfactant as a 'wetting agent'. So you get chemicals all over your hands and plant roots. But when this chemical surfactant eventually washes away, the potting mix get hard to wet and causes all sorts of problems. SO.... Do you want a soil that lasts in a container forever? That doesn't break down and decompose, causing root rot? Do you want a soil that easily gets wet and doesn't harden up like potting mix? We didn't like the solutions out there for our citrus nursery, so we made our own organic blend of potting soil that is good for ANY plant, indoors or out...including succulents, ornamentals, houseplants, exotic fruit trees, herbs, raised gardens, flowers beds and trees! Made of real South Texas virgin sandy loam soil, coco fiber, rice hulls, and biochar. The moment you realize that this soil is what your plant root's crave will be when you run your fingers through it. Firm but fluffy. Compressible but resilient.
