Description: This restored bible is missing the first few pages including about the first 15 chapters of Genesis. The pages show some worn edges and repairs as pictured. This Bible was owned by Bartholomew, a private in Capt. Fonda's co. of Schenectady Militia of 1775 and served in the Revolutionary War. Bartholomew was son of Ryer Schermerhorn, and Maria Van Vranken. Writing says "Schenectady December th 18 1795 Bought this Bible of John Tanahil Price One Pound Twelve Shillings" "To stop bleeding of the nose take and wind a woolen thread round the thickest part of the left little finger and take a sharp knife or razor and cutt below the middle joint so that the blood runs and the other part will stop" The restoration process includes reparing and rebinding pages when necessary, using a special leather conditioner to prevent further deterioration, reattaching covers and spines, and sometimes using dye to restore the original color. Restored bibles utilize as much of the original leather as possible, and are made to be fully functional.
