Description: Once in a life-time opportunity to own a historical doll with detailed provenance, connecting this doll to Louisa May Alcott, author of a famous novel Little Women (1868–69). This 16.5" Kestner china shoulder head doll has a Flat Top hairstyle; a white part line, long, single-stroke eyebrows, shaded blue irises with white highlights; and a smiling mouth with an unpainted space between the lips (ca. early 1860's). Original cloth body is filled with sawdust and is in good condition for being 164 years old (cloth hands are becoming fragile with some sawdust spilling out). Her shoulder head was restored in 1915 (please see photos). There is no damage to head itself, only to her shoulder. She is dressed in an exact replica of her original calico dress (please read more below). Attached to her dress is a hand-written note that reads:“Sarah Louisa Allcott, born December 19, 1864 - this doll “Louisa” belonged to her. Her father was Sidney Volney William Allcott, who was born in Marshall, Mich. (Michigan) May 25th - and was a cousin of Bronson Allcott, who wanted all Allcotts’ to drop “L” in the name. Louisa was dressed and restored by F. W. Pink …. dress top taken from her junior Prom dress (1915). Dress is an exact copy of Louisa original calico dress. I bought doll from owners daughter.” Information of Louisa May Alcott family: "Louisa May Alcott was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1832. She and her three sisters -- Anna, Elizabeth, and (Abba) May-- were primarily educated by their father, teacher/philosopher A. Bronson Alcott, and raised on the practical Christianity of their mother, Abigail May." She'll be carefully packed and mailed with insurance and tracking confirmation. Pictured chairs are not sold.
