Description: Up for sale is a lot of 1860's Central Pacific Railroad CPRR Crows Foot Telegraph Battery Pieces A copper electrode was placed at the bottom of a 6" diameter by 8" high glass jar. A crows foot battery was suspended from the top of the jar. An insulated wire ran up from the copper electrode out of the jar carrying the positive voltage. The jar was filled half with water, and a considerable amount of copper sulphate or blue vitriol. Eventually a current was produced which amounted to one volt (Early Batteries - Crows Foot Batteries). A series of these batteries were used to power the telegraph line.
