Description: 1872 $50 South Carolina Obsolete Banknote Graded Superb Gem New PCGS 69 PPQThis 1872 Obsolete Banknote in this high of a grade is extremely rare and a must for your collection. This incredible bond was created to fund the reconstruction of the famous Blue Ridge Railroad in 1872. E. B. Wesley gave the State of South Carolina $300,000 in order to underwrite the bonds, and they returned him $1,000,000 worth of scrip. Worthless scrip as it turns out, because one year later the State of South Carolina repealed the act, devaluing them entirely. This note features a stunning, yet familiar image directly in the center of the obverse. It is a highly detailed version of the portrait of George Washington that can be seen on the $1 bill today. It is a much more intricate design, and you can tell it was a skillful hand that created it. Two vignettes decorate either side of the note, and reprewsent the agricultural wealth of the State. On the right is an image of a man hauling a huge basket of produce through the field, with some other workers gathering in the background. On the right is a detailed action scene of 2 horses straining under the weight of a wagon piled high with cotton bales. This is one of many collectibles from the 40 year old KUNO collection that we will be presenting on Ebay.
