Up for sale is a nice antique bound volume of ST. NICHOLAS magazine from 1877-1878! ST. NICHOLAS magazine was Scribner’s Illustrated Magazine for Boys and Girls. This is Volume 5 of with issues that were published from November, 1877 through November, 1878. This book has articles of interest to children, fictional stories, games and riddles, poetry, department features and more! This book is nicely illustrated. Some of the nice articles / features I saw: A BUDGET OF HOME-MADE CHRISTMAS GIFTS - A 22-page article with numerous Christmas gift boys and girls could make at home. MISS ALCOTT: The Friend of Little Women and Little Men - A biographical article about the famous author Louisa Alcott that includes a portrait of her. UNDER THE LILACS by LOUISA ALCOTT - A serial story with eleven installments that begins and concludes in this volume. Nicely illustrated by Mary Hallock Foote. A CHILD QUEEN by Cecilia Cleveland - A True Story of Queen Isabella, born in 1387, who became Queen of England as a child. ARTHUR AND HIS PONY - One of the Stories for Little Folks in this volume. WORKS OF POETRY by accomplished poets of the day. I acquired this book from a private collection. It was gently handled down through the years. CONDITION: This book is complete and intact, in very good condition as evidenced by the photos. The leather half-bound covers are in good condition with some age expected edge and corner wear. The inside covers are in good condition with no cracking or separation at the hinges, both boards are firmly attached. The only writing I saw was a name neatly written on page one. The pages are in good to very good condition, the pages are very nice. I saw two pages that were torn. Some pages, particularly those opposite illustrations, have some foxing. All pages are tight to the binding. The leather spine is in good condition with some age-expected wear; the lettering is still easily read. This book comes from a smoke free home. This book is interesting reading that would children would enjoy and make for a nice addition to your library!
