Description: The Sonora Railway Co was built by the Atcheson, Topeka & Santa Fe (ATSF) between 1879-1882 from Nogales, Sonora to Mazatlan, Sinaloa. The ATSF leased the line to the Southern Pacific (SP) in 1898, and in 1911 the SP purchased the route. It became part of the Southern Pacific Railroad in Mexico. The Mexican government acquired the railroad in 1951, becoming part of the Ferrocarril del Pacifico. Items from the Sonora are quite rare, but I offer a capital stock certificate dated February 25, 1882 for 100 shares. The stock measures appx 11x8 inches and is printed on mid-weight paper. It is in very good condition. All writing/markings are from its issuance and processing. It has no rips or tears, but the upper left hand corner has been torn away.
