Toning and age-staining throughout textblock. Please see photos. Bertha Henry Buxton (26 July 1844 - 1881) was an English novelist and children's author. She wrote stories from an early age to amuse her schoolmates and, after marrying at the age of 16, pursued literary work as an amusement, even publishing a one-volume novel (Percy's Wife) at her husband's expense. In 1875, Buxton suddenly found herself poverty-stricken, and, becoming entirely dependent on herself, turned to writing for a living. She published a novel in 1876 (Jennie of the Prince's, by B.H.B.), which was a success, and went on to write a serial for the World the following year. During the same year, Won! By the Author of "Jennie of the Prince's", and a story for children entitled Rosabella, published under the name Auntie Bee. From this period on, she wrote under her own name.
