Description: This listing is for an antique ledger that begins in 1884 and goes through to about 1890 or so. This log is full of names, relatives and locations. It is full with only a few pages that have half entries on them. The book measures 13 ½” by 8” by 2 3/4”. It contains 696 pages. It is in poor condition but the information contained in it is priceless. First page reads “Opened As A Ledger June 1884 by Abraham Manchester”.Loose items include ink blotters, tax receipts, a payroll list, grocery lists, receipts for payment and a personal note from a customer that reads “Mrs. Manchester, Please fit these children with serviceable shoes and as cheap as you can. If I have as good luck as I am having I will pay part of that bill this summer”. Most of the customers live in the town of Westport. Names are at the top of each page and sometimes a note will be out from the name stating the person they are related to, or which house in town they are staying in. Sometimes the road they reside on is added. Also, if they are from another surrounding town. In one case the name of the Schooner Paskamansett and the Captain Patrick Donovan, is referenced.Items purchased are mainly listed as Sundries. Names will be entered on one page and when full will be started on another. It is full of names of the residents of Westport in the late 1800’s.This book is full of history, genealogy, geography and even maritime history.
