Up for sale is a very nice antique lot of TWO (2) Bound Volumes of SCRIBNER'S MAGAZINE from 1889! These are Volume 5 & 6 which were published from January through December, 1889. These two books have 768 pages each, 1,536 total pages of the very interesting articles, some are serial articles, covering all types of current events of 1889 and other interesting historical articles! In addition, these issues have serial fictional stories and many works of poetry! These features are also nicely illustrated. In 1889, railroad development was big news and there are many interesting features regarding railroads! See my photos of the Contents Pages for complete details. Some of the nice articles I saw: Volume One: CASTLE LIFE IN THE MIDDLE AGES, ELECTRICITY IN THE SERVICE OF MAN, THE RAILWAY MAILSERVICE, RAILWAY MANGEMENT, RAILWAY FREIGHT TRANSPORTATION, THE PREVENTION OF RAILROAD STRIKES. Volume Two: THE TELEGRAPH OF TODAY, SAFETY IN RAILROAD TRAVEL, HOW TO FEED A RAILWAY, ELECTRICITY IN WAR: 1) IN NAVAL WARFARE, 2) IN LAND WARFARE. I acquired these books from a private collection. They were gently handled and treasured down through the years. CONDITION: These books are complete and intact, in very good condition as evidenced by the photos. The leather half-bound covers are in good condition with some age expected edge and corner wear. The outside of the leather hinges have some cracking and a little bit of separation. The inside covers are in very good condition, the hinges were reinforced by the book binder, both boards are attached. There are no bookplates, markings or writing on the inside covers or end papers. The pages are in very good to very good-plus condition, the pages are very nice. The pages are crisp, all pages are tight to the binding. The pages have a marble finish on all edges. The leather spines are in good condition with some age-expected wear, some of the outer covering has flaked off, more so on Volume 5; the lettering is still easily read. These are clean books that were gently handled down through the years. These books come from a smoke free home. These books are interesting historical reading that would make for a nice addition to your library!
