Description: One-page handwritten letter from a woman that is basically a plea for help to the Governor written to a cigar maker who was apparently a friend of Governor Claude Mathews- The One-page 6" wide by 8 1/2" long letter set is dated July 25, 1896 and has great content: "1116 Del. St. July 25 / 96 Mr. Andrew Steffen. Dear Sir-I have heard nothing from the Gov. and as you kindly offered to call on him, and, as I am very much in need of Fred's help, I will be very grateful to you if you will call at your earliest convenience and do what you can for me. Tell him I need Fred's help badly. Pardon me if I am imposing on you. With thanks for all favors. I am, Very Gratefully Yours" signed "Alice B.
