Description: 1917 Classic UNDERWOOD No 5 typewriter; Good clean vintage/antique condition overall, with normal rustic wear from age and use, with a few spots of mild steel corrosion. Some areas with worn/chipped paint as can be expected of a 100-year-old machine. This unit has been cleaned (not a tear down deep clean) and oiled to ensure smooth functionality and corrosion protection. Only tested a few times but it works as far as I can tell. Keys strike and return as expected and bar advances after each strike. New ribbon will be required to bring it back to a useful state. This typewriter is being sold as is! Perfect as a decorative nostalgic centerpiece display for home, office, or school; Made in USA, circa 1917. History of this typewriter. This typewriter was purchased and used by James Randall and his wife who started the first dude ranch in Montana called the OTO Homestead and Dude Ranch which they owned until 1934. The property grew over the years to include an impressive lodge, cabins, barns, post office and outbuildings. The popularity of the ranch grew and had notable guests such as Theodore Roosevelt and Marcellus Hartley Dodge, Jr. In the 1927 picture (which will be included with this purchase), you can see James standing in front of the typewriter in his office, with his niece Margerite Randall standing next to him. Own a piece of history with a backstory that tells the story and history of this vintage antique typewriter. This typewriter was purchased from decedents of Margerite, with the hope that you will enjoy it for years to come. ReplyForwardAdd reaction
