Description: For your consideration is a Vega Tubaphone banjo with a handcrafted Long neck. Conversion was likely done in the late 1960s or 1970s after Pete Seeger and others popularized the style in the folk music scene of the time. Neck presents with very unusual peg head design and appears to have rather uncommon Martin tuning (pre-war??? post-war???) machines for the main strings. Neck appears to be constructed from very choice woods (rosewoods??) and presents very well! One Banjo retains its original dowel stick that matches the serial number on the pot (body) as pictured. Dowel stick appears to have been stained when the conversion from tenor to the longneck was completed. The original tone ring has not been reconditioned or taken apart in our care but appears to be in great original condition. All hooks and nuts present. 5th string 'capo' at 13th fret. Tail piece is not original. Banjo is playable but would certainly benefit from a setup for your playing style and needs. 5th string nut does buzz a bit, so I usually use the 5th string capo. This is a great example of a banjo that is nearly 100 years old as well as a great example of handmade / handcrafted custom work that is truly a product of a pivotal point in American folk music history! Banjo comes to you from a smoke free and humidity controlled home. Banjo comes in large guitar/bass case. Will ship to continental US only. Feel free to ask any questions.
