Description: For sale is a very nice and very rare 1922-D "Weak D" Lincoln Wheat Cent graded and certified by NGC as VG Details. The 1922-D Weak D is one of the rarest coins of the entire series. The genesis of this coin is really they were regular 1922-D Cents, but the dies that struck them at the Mint began getting very worn around the area of the date and mint mark so the "D" mint marks began getting very weak, and some to the point where you couldn't see it at all. It is not known exactly how many made it out of the Mint before they caught the problem, but it is believed to be VERY few, making it a very rare coin variety. Even in lower grades this coin is incredibly valuable. And whenever you find them graded and certified it takes it up a notch because you can be certain it is a Weak D variety and not just a worn down 22-D.As you can see from the pics the coin is in very good shape condition with a decent brown patina still with lots of original details. You can see NGC gave it a details designation for "rim damage." The damage they speak of is a tiny ding in the rim in the upper right corner around 1 o'clock. It is barely noticeable. The price of the coin was reduced nicely due to the ding, otherwise it would be priced MUCH higher. This is a must-have date key date needed for any Lincoln Cent collection. Thanks!
