The town was founded August 1912 by Clayton C. Todd who purchased 160 acres of land at Rock Spur, a siding on the railroad, and laid out the town. He named it after his 4-year-old daughter, Melba Todd Melba graduated from Melba High School in 1926 and started teaching at the school. Photo # 18 shows The Letterman Club. This was the 1st year of the Letterman Club. Charter Members were: Marion Coleman, Wallace Eames, Ernest Eberhard, Glenn J. Hall, Will Hoagland, Donald O' Hara and Erwin Zeyer. Photos 19 and 20 show the Baseball Team Members: Harold Osen, was the Catcher and Captain, Ernest Eberhard, pitcher, Willie Hoagland, First Base, Wallace Eames, 2nd Base, William Barningham, 3rd Base, Marion Coleman, Shortstop, Donald O'Hara, Outfield, Alvin Benson, Right Field, Wayne Miller, Robert O'Hara and Earl Olsen are the subs.
