Description: For sale is a gorgeous and very rare 1938 Jefferson Nickel graded and certified by NGC as MS-66 5FS, which stands for "Five Full Steps," referring to all the steps on the Monticello being bold and visible, which is very tough to achieve on these older Nickels. Jefferson Nickels began mintage in 1938 to replace the Buffalo Nickel and had a very long without a design change until 2004. There are so much stuff going on with this coin. First, 1938 is the first year of mintage of the Jefferson Nickel so whenever you get a first-year coin in such great shape it is always great. But what really puts this coin over the top is it's very high MS-66 5FS grade. In this era coins very not struck as well as they are today so they rarely achieved grades higher than MS-64 or 65. So whenever you get one to reach MS-66, let alone 5FS, it makes it an instant rarity. It is so rare, in fact, that NGC has graded only a mere 59 coins to this grade, and only 141 coins achieved grades higher than MS-66 5 FS. THAT's how rare this coin is!As you can see from the pics the coin is absolutely gorgeous with all the mint shine and luster you would expect from a coin with this high grade. It has no major blemishes at all. This is an amazing rare coin that would be at the top of any Nickel collection. Thanks!
