Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar - Background & Design: The Walking Liberty half dollar, a silver 50-cent coin, was issued by the United States Mint from 1916 to 1947. The renowned sculptor and engraver, Adolph A. Weinman, was the creative mind behind its captivating design. In 1915, Mint Director Robert W. Woolley concluded that he had both the permission and the obligation, as per the law, to replace coin designs that had been in circulation for 25 years. Consequently, the decision was made to replace the Barber coinage – the dimes, quarters, and half dollars bearing similar designs created by the longstanding Mint Engraver Charles E. Barber, first minted in 1892. Woolley initiated a competition, ultimately selecting Weinman to design the dime and half dollar. The design of the half dollar features Liberty portrayed as a full-length figure, striding confidently toward a new era. The flowing folds of the Stars and Stripes serve as a dynamic backdrop, symbolizing progress and optimism. Liberty carries branches of laurel and oak, representing the nation's civic and military achievements. With an outstretched hand, she bestows the spirit of liberty upon all. On the reverse side of the coin, an eagle majestically perches upon a mountain crag, its wings outstretched, exhibiting fearlessness and a profound sense of power. Emerging from a crevice in the rock is a young pine sapling, symbolizing the resilience of America. Don't miss out on the opportunity to invest in this extraordinary coin today! Walking Liberty Half Dollar Grading Scale & Guidelines: As understood and in relation to condition notes and guidelines, a Walking Liberty Half Dollar in an "Extremely Fine" condition are considered collectible quality.
