Richard Kivit (Richard Martin Karl Kivit) (February 27, 1888 Tartu - March 11, 1981, Ludwigsburg, Germany) was an Estonian cartoonist, book graphic illustrator and artist. His primary education was at the Tartu Teachers' Seminary in primary school, later he studied at the Hugo Treffner Gymnasium. He studied art from 1904 to 1905 under the direction of R.J. von zur Mühlen, the German Handicrafts Society of Tartu. His first graphic works as illustrations for the Russian-language textbook appeared already in 1910. Later, his cartoons were published in the newspapers "Our Aastasada" and "Postimees". During The First World War, he worked as an older drawing and instructor in the Military Industry Committee. After the war, he worked as a drawing instructor in Tartu in three local schools. He later completed his career in the field of watercolor and graphic art from 1921-1922 at Hans Hermann in Berlin. From 1935 he worked as a graphic artist in the publishing house "Imprint". Famous for the Tartu Literary and Arts Club. He left Estonia in 1944 and worked as an illustrator in the Herba & Schneider Publishing House in West Germany, as an artist at the Stuttgart and Karlsruhe Nature Museum.He was a very prolific illustrator of children's books. For example, he illustrated the following children's books: "The Virgin of the Bible", "Viis, Blub and the Cinderella", "The Egg", "The Family Aino", "How Did Santa Cope Find The Church", "The Children's Crowd", "The Green Sun Earth, Kaval Ants and the Old Man "," Albikära Ants "," Animal Party "," Poultry "," House of the Year ", Johannes Käis's Aubat, and the" Aubis "issued in 1933 at the Sword Printing Company.
