Description: 1940's WWII Italy Postcard Buon Anno Italian New Years Mailed from the 3rd Convalescent Hospital of the 5th Army Postmarked November 17, 1943 U. S. Army 2nd Base P.O. Free - see photo This card was mailed from a serviceman in the 5th Army from Italy to the USA. On back of card "Edixioni MPM (trademark) Imprime ea Italy" (printed in Italy) Front lower left has artist inscription Bonfanti which is probably from the Italian painter Arturo Bonfanti (1905 - 1978). Arturo Bonfanti had worked as a graphic artist before the war and was living in his birthplace of Bergamo during WW2. Afterwards he became an abstract painter of some renown. The postmark is just two months after the Allied invasion of Italy which started with Operation Avalanche at Salerno. I have a few others like this for sale - framed and grouped together would look nice - check out my store!
