Description: At 6-foot-8, Dolph Schayes was agile and possessed great finesse around the basket. From 1944 to 1948, Schayes popularized the city game while starring under Hall of Fame coach Howard Cann at New York University. He then became one of the NBA's most durable and hard-working athletes. Constantly seeking new ways to improve his game, Schayes practiced his free-throw shooting with a 14-inch diameter hoop, which he fit inside a regulation 18-inch hoop. This tactic helped him lead the NBA in free throw percentage three times. In a 16-year career that spanned the NBA's infant years to the modern era, Schayes led his team into the playoffs 15 times. Upon his retirement in 1964, he had played in 1,059 games, more than any other player in NBA history. With 19,249 points, he was the NBA's all-time leading scorer when he retired. Offered is a super rare Spalding Advisory Staff advertising photograph that measures 4” x 6” in size that is on a glossy paper stock. This was evidently produced to handle autograph requests (mailing fold in the center not touching any part of the signature or inscription). We’ve seen the 8x10 photo produced by Spalding, but this is the first of this designation. Signed in the 1950s LOA Richard Albersheim of Albersheims.com - former authenticator with PSA/DNA.
