Description: The 0-15 was first introduced by Martin in 1940 when it quickly became the company's best selling model. The guitar, with no binding and a thin satin finish, was the plainest model that they made. Nonetheless, per Martin's tag-line "Many Styles but one quality", the modest 0-15 was carefully hand-built with comparable workmanship to their flagship D-45. Furthermore, with it's all-mahogany design, the guitar generated a surprisingly full and balanced sound.Famously, the renowned folk singer Woody Guthrie would adopt the 0-15 as his own calling it "the people's guitar". (0-15's would also be played by the likes of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan and even Elvis!).1952 0-15 Serial #124250 was acquired from a gentleman in Calaveras County in the Sierra-Nevada foothills who was given the guitar as a gift from his parents ... in 1955. Since then, it has clearly enjoyed a long, useful life now showing a good deal of 'character' in the form of dings and scuffs in addition to a split in the lower side between the waist and the heel.Nonetheless, the guitar is structurally sound with solid bracing, seams, neck, etc.. Aside from replacement tuner buttons, the guitar also remains remarkably original including its 'born with' finish, bridge, frets, tuners, nut and tortoise pickguard. The guitar plays great and, given its light weight and modest body size, it is extremely comfortable to play. (Makes for an ideal sofa picker/strummer.) Action at the 12th fret is 4/32". Best of all, with he benefit of 72 years of age, #124250 offers a notably rich and full sound.Comes with a period correct (original?) case in very good condition.
