Sid Simpson, a Republican who had served in Congress since 1943, representing a district in western Illinois. But Simpson (1894-1958), didn’t live long enough to win a ninth term. At a campaign stop in Pittsfield, Illinois, on Oct. 26, 1958, he died of a heart attack. The late congressman’s widow, Edna O. Simpson, succeeded him. Card measures 3" x 5".
