It contains feature articles and company/personnel news. 1969 -December- GN Great Northern Goat - railroad railway company magazine Click images to enlarge Description The Great Northern Railway (GN) was a US railroad that served the area between St. Paul, Minnesota and Seattle, Washington. Its primary trackage was in the states of Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Washington, but it also had lines into Oregon, South Dakota and Iowa, as well as Manitoba and Alberta in Canada. Its most famous "named" passenger trains were the Empire Builder, Oriental Limited, and Western Star. In 1970, the GN merged with three other railroads (Northern Pacific; Chicago, Burlington & Quincy; Spokane, Portland & Seattle) to form the Burlington Northern (BN). Today its surviving lines are part of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF). The GN, like most other railroads of its time, published a company magazine for its employees, passengers and shippers. The magazine, named after the GN's mascot logo, was entitled "The Goat". "The Goat" was one of the better railroad publications, containing information about the GN, its service area, and its employees. For most of its life, it was published monthly. The last issue was February 1970, as the magazine was cancelled with the merger into the BN. "The Goat" measured appx 7x5 inches and was printed on a high-quality glossy paper stock. All issues are illustrated, and some are in color. I am selling my collection of "The Goat" due to age and health issues. All issues are in EXCELLENT CONDITION but are used; they have no rips, tears, writing or markings. All were originally mailed to a railroad ticket agent in Pennsylvania and have on the back cover a mailing label. This issue is dated December 1969 and contains 20 pages. Features include (a) a construction update on the new Flathead Tunnel (second longest railroad tunnel in the US) in Montana; (b) a lignite (coal) research project; (c) expansion of alumina handling facilities at the Port of Everett (WA); (d) a profile on Leavenworth (WA), served by the GN, which was named an "All-American City"; (e) the development of new "sandwich" snow skis; more. This issue has 10 photos and illustrations; the cover shows a skier in Montana. Pictures sell! Auctiva offers Free Image Hosting and Editing.300+ Listing Templates! Auctiva gets you noticed!
