Description: 1967 Mauritius 5, 10, 25, 50 Rupees Uncirculated Banknote Specimen Set with COA "MaltaThe fronts of each of the three denominations of Malta's banknotes - 1, 5 and 10 Maltese pounds - bear a map of Malta, Comino and Gozo. (The surrounding sea differs subtly from note to note - one of the many built-in measures to defeat the forger.) Toi the right of the Central Bank of Malta's handsome coat of arms is prominently displayed. The remaining elements are Malta's principal war memorial and the statue of Neptune, mythical god of the sea. The watermark - a human head surmounted by a fortress - is symbolic of the dauntless spirit of Malta. And the scroll-like design element in the background is based on devices found in Malta's prehistoric temples - like the one depicted on the back of the £M1 note.The backs of all the notes present a superb contrast to the slightly austere fronts. The scenes are vigorously drawn without sacrificing detail. This is exemplified by the buildings on the promontory in the background of the £M10 note, which includes on the left the ruins of historic Fort St. Elmo. The back of this note also demonstrates the extraordinary quality of color that distinguishes this Malta set.
