The copyright page states 'First Edition: September 1988' and the printing status bar is complete, making this a first printing. The U.K. edition apparently came out the same month. A loose label still on the original backing paper, signed by author David Eddings without inscription or personalization, is laid in. Map signed by Del Rey editor Shelly Shapiro, who did the maps for the book, no inscription or personalization. From the flaps: Captives of His Imperial Majesty - Zandramas had stolen King Garion's infant son and fled far to the east, there to use the child in some ritual that would make the Dark Destiny supreme. Garion and his friends had followed, but now they were captives of Zakath, Emperor of Mallorea, taken to his capital city of Mal Zeth. There they were treated almost as friends and surrounded in luxury. But Zakath stubbornly refused to let them leave. Dust jacket - very good, minor edgewear and wrinkling, minor rubbing, not price clipped, in dust jacket protector. Autograph Label - David Eddings signature is sloppy, as usual, label shows slight tanning, condition of gumming on the back unknown.
