Description: 2 DIFFERENT RAINIER OLD STOCK ALE 12OZ WIND TUNNEL BEER CANS. Sick's Brewing and Malting, Seattle, Washington. Rainier For Life. Truly Mild. 1950's Boeing Wind Tunnel cans. Double panel. No top or bottom on these. Edges are a bit rough and may not be perfectly round. A few scratches can be seen on all sides. One is flat green and other is metallic. They may have been new when they were first used. They still look great and will display well. See all individual photos. Colors are not faded and no rust. No top or bottom. Multiple scratches can be seen on each one and they may not be perfectly round. These are duplicates. I recently acquired a clean one with lid. Originally part of the Dino-Soar Program where they tested Supersonic aircraft designs including the X-20 (early space shuttle prototype) and the now defunct SST. About 3,000,000 unlidded cans were donated from a local can company to use as filler for the two 38 foot diameter steel vacuum spheres at the Boeing test facility in Washington. Bursts of air up to 3000mph rushed through the spheres and the empty cans helped maintain temperatures and keep the nozzles from freezing up. It was decommissioned and taken apart in 2016. Thankfully a few collectors found out and put in bids and saved them from being scrap metal. Cans included in the find were: The first known possible example of a steel Coke can made for export, Rainier Beer, Olympia Beer, Shasta sodas, Pepsi, 7-UP, Mobil oil and a few more.
