Description: Color random 2 pcs Traditional Korean Games – Jegichagi Jegichagi (제기차기)The name is derived from the words “jegi”, which means “object used to play” and “chagi”, which means “kicking something”. In its most basic form, the goal of the game is to keep a shuttlecock made of coin wrapped in paper in the air as long as possible by kicking it. The exact origin of the game is unknown; however it has been played in Korea in some form for thousands of years1. In the past, the game was played by all ages. Today, it is mostly enjoyed by children, and especially during the Lunar New Year holidays (Seollal/설날). There are several ways to play the game, and it can be played alone or in groups, either in rounds or as teams of two to four. The most basic way to play is Ttanggangaji (땅강아지), kicking the jegi with the inside of your foot, and touching the ground between kicks with the kicking foot. To make the game more challenging, there are variants such as balancing without touching the ground (Heollaengi/헐랭이), alternating between both feet (Eogichagi/우지좌지), and having to kick the jegi higher than your height (Kijigi/키지기). Though modern, ready-made, and colourful jegis are available for purchase (online as well), they are fairly easy to make. Like many other traditional games, the relative simplicity of the game and its components make Jegichagi easy to play at home. In the beginning, the jegis were made with bird feathers and coins with holes in them, though later the coins would be elaborately wrapped in traditional paper (Hanji/한지). All you need to make one yourself is either some tissue paper or plastic bags, a rubber band, and some coins. After wrapping the coins in the material, and securing them with the rubber band, simply cut it to so that they resemble ribbons. ✈️Shipping Method✈️We ship worldwide.
