Description: 3 Vintage CORELLE LIVINGWARE BUTTERFLY GOLD Coupe Soup/Cereal Bowls, White & Gold Floral & Butterflies, 18 oz.CORNING WARE - Made in USA Previously owned Corelle coupe soup/cereal bowls, in excellent condition. No apparent nicks, cracks, repairs, nor chips (please see photos), gently used, cleaned, and stored. Bowls have been analyzed closely. One of the bowls has a couple of thin, age-related scuff marks inside the bowl below the rim (please see last 2 photos taken at different close-up angles of scuff marks - don't feel like they are scratches, they are only faintly noticeable), no similar marks on the other two bowls. All three bowls' exterior patterns and colors appear pristine. Overall, these vintage bowls are in very good condition for their age, indicative of gentle, normal use and the durability of Corning Ware's Corelle. This popular, classic Corelle Butterfly Gold pattern was introduced in 1970 and was retired in the late 1980s - early 1990s. Made in USA. Pattern features glossy white background with alternating gold butterflies and flowers encircling exterior of bowl, solid glossy white interior, slight lip to bowl's rim (please see photos). Upbeat, retro pattern, has a simple, cheerful, 1970s vibe to it. Use all year 'round, perfect to use for soup/stew, cereal, dessert, salad, or fruit. Each measures approx. 6.25 inches diameter, approx. capacity 18 ounces. Microwave safe and dishwasher safe, do not use under broiler nor on stovetop. Made in United States of America. Description, history, and specifications from Corelle and Corelle Corner websites: Introduced in 1970, and one of the original Livingware patterns, Butterfly Gold proved to be possibly the most popular Corelle pattern in terms of sales. Its arrangement of bold blossoms and butterflies is an icon, easily recognizable to many. For the first 2-3 years of production, the dinnerware sets were sold with white undecorated bowls and Livingware Centura cups. In 1972, Butterfly Gold Pyrex Compatibles were launched to accompany the very popular Corelle dinnerware. This product line included items like ovenware and nesting bowl sets, as well as Tabletop Ware accessories. A long-lived and well-loved pattern, Butterfly Gold seems to have been discontinued officially in the late 1980s or early 1990s. It did not appear in the 1993 catalogue, for example, but other literature from the mid 1990s places it among current patterns, so the true date is unclear. Although it was described in 1994 as being among the top-sellers, it was necessary to update Corelle's overall brand image by shedding the familiar designs of the previous generation. But there is a grey area where the most popular classic patterns remain in production, long past the provisions of the Continuity Promise. Although boxed sets were no longer available through normal retail channels, selected pieces were still available for open stock purchase in the late 1990s certainly, perhaps even longer. Butterfly Gold was released as a PYREX Compatibles pattern for the Corelle Dinner Ware pattern of the same name. Butterfly Gold was released twice; once in 1972 and an altered version in 1979. Designed by Gregory Mirow, the pattern was introduced in 1972 as a series of “Pyrex Compatibles.” Many new shapes and sizes with the Butterfly Gold pattern were launched during this time to complement the Corelle Dinnerware pattern released in 1970 of the same name.Nothing-else-like-it, triple-layer-strong glass (Vitrelle tempered glass) highly resists chips and cracksLightweight and easy to handleUltra-hygienic, non-porous, and easy-to-clean glassPlates stack compactly, taking up half the space of ceramic dishesDishwasher safe, microwave safe, not safe under broiler nor on stovetopCrafted with pride in Corning, New YorkAbout Corelle: Corelle is a brand of glassware and dishware. It is made of Vitrelle, a tempered glass product consisting of two types of glass laminated into three layers. It was introduced by Corning Glass Works in 1970, but is now manufactured and sold by Corelle Brands. Because Corelle items are made from tempered glass, they are chip- and scratch-resistant, as well as break-resistant. However, they are not unbreakable and are not chip-proof nor scratch-proof.
