Description: This listing is for a kit compiled of the three most common items that fail in a Club Car PowerDrive2 AKA Model 22110 Golf Car Charger. The installation is extremely simple. All you'll need is a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the 12 screws that hold the case to the charger, remove the three components that are included in the kit and replace them accordingly. The Relay and Diode/Rectifier will come out easily with the screwdriver and the circuit breaker has tabs on it that will squeeze inward to allow it to "Snap" out of place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- How do you know if this will fix your charger? Let's go over a few things and let me explain how the charging system works on these vehicles. First I'm going to go over each individual component and explain how it works. Relay: The relay is essentially an on/off switch similar to a light switch in your home. The only difference is that instead of you manually turning it on and off, it relies on power from the golf cart to tell it to turn on. There is an on-board computer on every 48 volt Club Car vehicle from 1995-2013 that is used to control charging functions. If you look at the Relay you'll notice you have four prongs. A "COM" (Common) post is where the power from your wall outlet enters the relay. The "NO" (Normally Open) post is where the power will exit your relay and enter the transformer of the charger once the relay is turned on. The other prongs on the relay are a bit smaller than the other two. These are referred to as the "Relay Coil". These two Relay Coil prongs require 48 Volts, Positive on one post and Negative on the other in order to turn the relay on. This power source comes from the On-Board Computer of your vehicle. When power is supplied to the Relay Coil, the Relay will "Click". Once this happens, an instant connection is made between the COM and the NO posts and will allow power to pass through your relay into the transformer, turning your charger on and letting it charge your vehicle. Once the charge process is complete, the On-board Computer will turn the Relay Coil off and the charger will stop charging. Failed Relay symptoms include a Relay that will not click, a relay that will click but not distribute power from the COM post to the NO post, or a Relay that is stuck in the closed (on) position and will not turn off, allowing the charger to overcharge the batteries. Circuit Breaker: The Circuit Breaker is a safety device. It's purpose it to detect a short or a circuit overload anywhere in the electrical system of the charger. If a problem is detected, the Circuit Breaker will "Trip" and power will not be allowed to pass through it until you turn it back on. The same concept applies to the breakers in your home. Failed Circuit Breaker symptoms include a Circuit Breaker that will trip consistently for no apparent reason. This happens when it has tripped so many times that the internal spring becomes weak. A Circuit Breaker may also fail and not allow power to pass through which will keep the charger from turning on. If this happens, the relay will click but the charger will not have any response because it's not getting power. Rectifier and Thermal Paste: The Rectifier is used to convert AC Power from your home into DC Power for your batteries. The PowerDrive 2 charger uses two small transformers to generate power to charge your vehicle. The Rectifier in this particular charger uses two internal diodes which allow these two transformers to work with each other instead of against each other. If one or both of these internal diodes fail, the charger will not work. If this happens you may see smoke coming from the rectifier and in some cases it may even catch fire. This is a sure indication that the rectifier has failed and needs to be replaced. This is why it's super important to have a good working Circuit Breaker in your charger. If a Rectifier short is detected, the Circuit Breaker will trip and the charger will shut down. The Thermal Paste is included in this kit because it helps the Rectifier release excess heat. The Paste draws the heat out of the Rectifier into the back of the aluminum charger case and allows it to dissipate via the louvers in the charger. Failed Rectifier symptoms include a charger that will turn on and immediately trip the Circuit Breaker. The ammeter needle may go backwards or bounce around from side to side before the Circuit Breaker trips.
