Description: Nice small collection of encased cents, which were popular promotions for events and businesses in the 20th century to maybe the 1970s, and with such a wide variety available, remain very collectible today. The 'Lucky Penny' in the shape of a horseshoe was a common theme and there are three of them here. The group consists of: 1. 1901 Indian Head cent in Fine condition encased in a round holder with a 4-leaf clover design, around which reads: 'Good Luck Souvenir, Buffalo NY Pan American Exposition'. The event was held in 1901, was a major event and is probably most-known today as the site of President William McKinley's assassination. Around the coin on the reverse is a pair of crossed horseshoes and it reads: 'Lucky Penny Pocket Piece I'm It'. The piece is holed on both sides (to be worn on a chain - use as a keychain, as many of these were, would come later) and one of the holes has broken through. 2. 1946 Lincoln Wheat cent in AU condition encased in a horseshoe shape. Obverse reads: 'Keep Me And Never Go Broke - I Bring Good Luck'. The reverse advertises 'Loyal Order Of Moose Buffalo Lodge No 8' with the phone # G.A. 6658 at the bottom. Excellent condition. Lodge #8 is still around today and has existed since 1909, making it one of the oldest still in existence. 3. 1947 Lincoln Wheat cent with AU details that has some surface discoloration (from the aluminum casing) at the left. Same obverse as the previous. The reverse advertises Gamler's Leading Jewelers Diamond Importers 522 Main St Buffalo NY. Excellent condition. Harry Gamler, an immigrant from Lithuania, served in the US military in WW I and opened his shop at 11 East Swan St in 1919. He died in 1989 at the age of 99 and the business survived several more years, closing in 1997. 4. 1958 D Lincoln Wheat cent in VF condition encased in the same holder as the previous two. The reverse reads: 'Souvenir of New Hampshire'. This one is holed with the original chain, for use as a keychain. Excellent condition. 5. 1963 Elizabeth II Canada one cent coin in Mint State condition, encased in a round holder that reads the same on both sides: "Windsor Canadian Imported - The Smoothest Whisky Ever To Come Out Of Canada". Near mint condition. There you have it, all five for one money. Insured and tracked shipping $6.50
