Sarouk rugs are built on a cotton foundation with good quality wool cut to a medium length making up the pile. The original older, and most expensive rugs, are hard woven with top quality lustrous wool which is cut very short. Color is made up from strong red, blue, burnt orange, black, ivory or champagne. Knot counts range on average from about 120 KPSI to 450 KPSI. Sarouk rugs are in great demand both in Persia and through export to Western and European countries.
