Description: This is an extremely rare platinum luster glaze Mid Century Modern (circa late 1950s-early 1960s, as far as I can tell from Raymor catalogues) Italian pottery lamp designed by Aldo Londi for Bitossi. Some pieces in this line, although not lamps, were sold to Raymor. For this lamp, which is so rare *I can find no other example* online, I imagine Tyndale imported the base from Bitossi directly and added their own very cool, pleated heavy paper, snakeskin-print brown shade. This lamp combines a center panel of intricate linear sgraffito crosshatching on raw brown clay with top and bottom panels of rich "platinum" luster glaze. It is in excellent vintage condition; there are a very few slight lines in the luster that came from past use, but no cracks or chips anywhere or stains on the luster, just some color unevenness in the brown clay. The unevenness is both less obtrusive than on pieces in the same line that have sold on 1st Dibs and elsewhere, and also situated toward the back where the cord enters. Please note, the luster is reflective, so it reflects the white backdrop in the first photo and cord lines in some of the later ones. The lamp is platinum luster top and bottom, with no such flaws. The lamp measures about 20.5" to the top of the shade (harp and finial as configured take it to about 20"), 16" at widest point of the shade, and about 8" diameter, 28" circumference, at widest point of the base. The original wiring is in fine working condition with a nice long cord, but of course rewiring would be a safe choice, since both prongs of the plug are the same size. Price is *without shade* but *with harp and chrome ball finial* as I believe they were original. Even if you choose a different shade and harp, the heavy chrome-finish finial works perfectly with the lamp, so it would be worth keeping. Other lamps of similar shape, although not with the added metallic decor, are shown in Bitossi catalogues with simple white cylindrical shades. If you're interested in the shade, which still looks chic and new, and which I also *believe* to be original to the Tyndale setting (as it has age/use discoloration on the inside plastic protector, which is visble only when looking directly inside the shade): please message me BEFORE BUYING with your zipcode. I'll add the shade for an extra $75, but as it will have to be shipped in its own box, total shipping costs (for two boxes rather than one, although of course the shade won't be as heavy as the lamp) will increase significantly. Please let me know and I will adapt the listing to reflect your personal price. I will double-box and protect the lamp securely and ship it out with insurance and signature confirmation the first business day following cleared payment.
