These portfolios are titled "Picturesque World's Fair" published with the endorsement and approval of George R. Davis Director - General of the World's Columbian Exposition. An Elaborate Collection of Colored Views. Chicago W.B. Conkey Company Publishers. It says " Fine Arts Series, Feb. 10, 1894. Published Weekly, $20.00 - per Annum. Chicago Post Office. At the left hand top cover it says "Fine Arts Series 1". Each portfolio has this statement numbered from 1-16. In the first portfolio is a color picture of George R. David Director-General of the Fair. Also, there is an introduction that states "The publisher's of "Pictureque World's Fair", in presenting these exquisite views, feel justified in congratulating themselves upon the success that has attended their efforts to place within the reach of all classes of people an artist realistic reproduction of the great Exposition." On the back of each portfolio is a list of what items will be in the next portfolio. So the back cover of Series 1 is a list of series 2. The condition of Series 1 is worn and acceptable. The pages are all separated from the portfolio. But the rest of the 15 remaining portfolios are in good condition and all pages attached. The World's Columbian Exposition (also known as the Chicago World's Fair) was a world's fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492.
