Sara Hadley was a Lace Maker in the late 1800's until the early 20th century, her patterns are by no means simple to follow, and her wisdom and skills were the best of her day. She was the editor of the Butterick lace making books, winner of the 1892 World's Fair lace making competition and shop owner who supplied and repaired laces for the finest families in the country. In good condition for its 100+ years, delicate cover pages to be handled with care to prevent tearing. Volume 5, No. 3, 23 Pages, Measures 10.5" x 8". These Sarah Hadley books come from my grandmothers needlework Studio in Manhattan, LaMer's Studio 1909-1967 where she taught women, mostly from France, Italy, Austria and Switzerland how to reweave, bead, and repair invisibly any textile. The best students went on to become skilled needleworkers and remained in my grandmothers employ for many years. During the depression she has a thriving business catering to the wealthy New York elite, making beaded dresses, bags and shoes, as well as repairing any article of clothing or bed and table linens. Some of her clients whom I have letters from were Nat King Cole, a heavy smoker always burning his suits, Alice B.Tully of Tully Hall Lincoln Center, Henry Ford, yes THE Henry Ford, Eleanor Roosevelt and others.... Quite the history, she was a wonderful business woman when it not easy for a woman to have her own business, and she was an artist extraordinaire with a needle and thread.
