Description: This is one of the original antique side tables that have become so popular and so scarce that they are now being reproduced. This one was made in Bombay in the 19th century and imported to England or brought home by a returning member of the Raj. These useful tables collapsed for easy portability in British Colonial India. There is a round sticker on the underside stating its origin. There appears to be the remnants of a larger square label that’s unreadable.Although its long life and travels have produced some wear, it’s been lovingly cared for and even repaired by a skilled craftsman of yesteryear.Even after all these years the tabletop fits tightly on its base and it stands perfectly stable. The top has inlaid bone and ebony in intricate designs. There are some losses to the inlay and the top had the beginnings of a crack which was repaired by a wood butterfly inset. The darkened wood of the repair shows this was done long ago. Please look at all the pictures very carefully. I’ve tried to show all of the damage. I think it would be difficult to find an authentic inlaid table of this era that was perfect. Its charm is in its age and travels which ended in New England in the 1950’s.It is 18” tall and 17” at its widest. It weighs 12 lbs.It can be picked up (or possibly) delivered in New England in lieu of shipping. Contact me to see if this is an option for you.
