Description: Description Antique 19th century French wax seal, desk stamp bearing an armorial matrix. Features a handle crafted from deer antler hand carved with the bust of a man. He is portrayed with a mustache and wearing a head cap, the carver used the natural burr texture of the antler to create the illusion of a fur coat collar around his shoulders. Tapering off to a silvered bronze base with armorial matrix. The coat of arms is that of the noble family de Chaignon originally from Périgord, currently established in the provinces of Burgundy and Franche-Comté. "D'azur au lion d'or armé et lampassé de sable tenant une épée d'argent garnie d'or." The coat of arms features a lion armed with a sword, crowned helm, crested with armed lion, initials EJ. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use, there is a hair line in the antler at the base as shown. Measures 3 7/8" height x 1 1/4" wide x 1" deep.
