Antique Gebruder Heubach Action Baby #9744 German Bisque

Description: A darling Gebruder Heubach action cutie (sometimes called a position baby) - approximately 5" tall, rosy pink all-bisque character baby with a hilarious “meanie” expression with his little hands in fists. Hand-painted porcelain bisque, intaglio blue eyes, molded and brushed light brown hair with a curl in the front and molded tufts of hair in the back. He has incredible modeling and details - from his expression to his baby wrinkles, tiny ears and belly button! He has his little hands all balled up in baby fists. He is modeled in great detail, including the square Heubach mark on the bottom of his right leg and 9744 incised on the bottom of his left foot. He is in wonderful and original condition, with NO chips, cracks, or restoration and no damage found. It is truly a treasure to add to your little collection! This little guy is reputed to be the inspiration for Effanbee’s “Baby Grumpy” composition doll. An incredibly sweet German piano baby made by Gebrüder Heubach, from Lichten, Germany, in the 1880s to the 1920's. He is a wonderful example of Heubach action/position babies! A figurine like him can be seen on page 100, figure 7 in Carol Ann Stanton's Heubach's Little Characters Dolls and Figurines 1850-1930.
