Description: Up for sale is very impressive early 20th century British silver plated serving salver made by renowned Barker & Ellis Company from Birmingham (*). This tri-footed salver with scalloped edge in Chippendale design is crafted in Rococo style (found in some Georgian era sterling salvers) featuring exquisite sea shells motifs and center with bright-cut foliage engraving. The underside of the salver is marked with the Barker & Ellis Company menorah mark (in a circle) and word 'England'. It is worth it to mention that candlestick mark (in a circle) also was used by Ellis & Co. This lovely silver plated salver is so well made and with beautiful patina that it is really difficult to distinguish from the sterling one. The salver was heavily electroplated over copper with silver and it has significant weight. It measures approximately 10" in diameter and 5/8" tall Not monogrammed. In very good antique condition with just some marks from use, scratches and some wear to silver plate. The bright-cut engraving shows light wear. Please see the pictures for more details. No returns accepted, so please ask questions before purchasing (*) The Barker Ellis Silver Co Ltd, established in 1801, is one of the oldest firms of silversmiths and electroplaters now trading in Birmingham. It still possesses the original Boulton & Watt dies acquired during its early days of manufacturing. The business appears in the Post Office Directory of Birmingham 1871 as Barker Brothers, silversmiths, producing a wide range of candlesticks, cutlery and tableware at their premises in Paradise Street. As Barker Brothers Silversmiths Ltd, it was incorporated in 1907. By the early twentieth century, the company had moved to Constitution Hill, where it remained until the 1980s. It also maintained a London showroom during the early part of this century. In the 1960s, the firm merged with another, old established company manufacturing silver plated and electroplated ware, Ellis & Co (Birmingham) Ltd. After a period as a subsidiary of Pentos Plc, the business returned to private ownership in 1984. In 1979 the firm obtained a Federal registration in the USA for the trademarks Ellis & Co, Barker Ellis and Ellis Barker (the marks were cancelled in 1988)
