Description: A lovely example of an antique solid sterling silver teapot from the highly collectible silversmith, Hester Bateman, dating from the reign of George III. It is clearly hallmarked on the base for London 1788 with the all-important maker's mark Hester Bateman. There are also partial hallmarks inside the lid. The oval, facetted narrow body has an excellent bright cut engraved design of swagged drapes and flowers. The spout is also decorated with trailing foliate designs. The ebonised wooden handle is well shaped and carved. The hinged lid rises to a dome decorated with a bright cut surround and surmounted by a fabulous pineapple finial.
