Description: Beautiful antique plate, decorated by Helena Wolfsohn studio, Dresden, Germany on the early C1850s blanks by Carl Knoll, Carlsbad. The plate is fully hand painted and features a courting couple image, Watteau style, in the center, and lovely Dresden style floral details and garlands along the scalloped rims, adorned with gilded accents. The porcelain is thin and almost egg shell like. Measure - 8.5” across the rim. Marked with Dresden crown “D” mark painted overglaze. This mark was used by Helena Wolfsohn studio during late 19th century into 20th century. There are also impressed marks of the original maker - Carl Knoll Carlsbad. This impressed mark was used 1848-1868. Condition: Overall nice antique condition considering the age and how fragile the porcelain is. One small hairline inside the dark area (that area is visible on reverse side only). There are small spots on the rim with what appears to be a small chip/flea bite fill. (Pictured) These flaws however don't take away from the overall look.Other than the above, minor rough areas along the rims, which are normal considering that porcelain is thinly potted; some minor marks and scratches related to use, minor wear to gilt and the hand painted decorations. Wear and minor scabs on the undersides/feet. Otherwise it appears that usage of the plate was not extensive. Cutlery marks are minimal if any. This plate is old and such flaws are expected. Please inspect every photo carefully for more details. The plate sold in AS IS condition due to the above-mentioned flaws, however, it is a wonderful example of Dresden porcelain of mid to late Victorian era.
