Please take a moment to look at my other auctions for more finds! *Antique Reliquary Theca With Saint & Martyr Relics*This auction is for a 1800's (?)Italian Reliquary Theca. A glass fronted brass wearable reliquary.It contains the relics from two Christian Saints and Martyrs.Saint Cassiani (S. Cassiani E. M.) Saint Cassian of Imola. A 4th Century Evangelist and Martyr who was tortured and killed by his own students for teaching about Christianity instead of sacrificing for the Roman gods. Patron saint of Mexico City, Teachers, Shorthand Writers and Parish Clerks.Saint Maximilian (S. Maximiliani Ep. M.) A Bishop and Martyr.I believe this was Maximilian of Lorch. (present day Slovenia) 288AD. A Bishop who was beheaded by the Roman Prefect of Emperor Numerian after refusing to abandon Christianity and sacrifice to the pagan gods. The Reliquary Theca is approximately 1 7/16" across, and appears to be a brass case and brass ring attached at the top. A piece of gold fabric (?) on the back with red stitching, and gold and silver metal embellishments. The (paper?) labels above each relic. Relics appear to be possibly bone fragments?In very good to excellent antique condition. It shows some age as seen in the photos. No attempt has been made to clean it. I WILL consider offers on this item. The Theca will be boxed and safely packaged when shipped. No Reserve No Returns If you have questions, please ask!
