Description: Antique Folk Art round wooden pyrography wall plaque featuring a beautiful INDIAN MAIDEN made by and marked FLEMISH 853 ART on the backside. Has the original hanging hook at the top. Stunning details. It has a few surface scratches on the front, a chip on the backside and some splitting around the backside edge but it does not affect the integrity of the plaque. The Flemish Art Company was based in Brooklyn, New York. The company was a leader in the supply of pyrography tools and kits, which helped popularize the craft of wood-burning in the early 20th century. The company's name came from the belief that wood-burning originated in Flanders, and its success led to the term "Flemish art" becoming synonymous with pyrography.
