Description: Royal Doulton Vase A Royal Doulton vase hand-painted with a beautiful scene of Lake Orta, one of the Northern Italian mountain lakes, not far from Lake Como. The vase is signed J. Hughs, a pseudonym of John Hugh Plant. In generally good condition but with a couple of tight hairlines which should give no further trouble, fine age-related crazing, no chips. John Hugh Plant was a renowned landscape artist who made significant contributions to Royal Doulton's ceramic artistry in the early 20th century. He worked for Royal Doulton from 1902 to 1917, having spent many years with Coalport and Wedgwood> He is known for his exceptional landscape paintings such as Italian landscapes, Scottish castles, English country houses and inns, and especially for the Northern Italian lake and Venetian scenes.
