Description: This is an antique hand-painted rectangle serving plate / tray / platter made in the mid-19th century designed by Edme Samson of Samson Ceramics (Edmé et Cie Company) Paris, France. It bears an Armorial Crest or Coat of Arms of a lion and a unicorn holding a shield, with the motto "Sola Virtus Invicta" ("Only Courage is Invincible" or "Virtue Alone is Unconquered") hand written across a banner. This stunning piece is gilded and also features an ornate hand-applied floral decor (in purple with green) surrounded by white raised enamel scroll accents. Measures 15.25" long x 6.25" wide. Stamped on the bottom with a fake Chinese mark which Samson used on its fine Chinese export porcelain reproductions, and the remains of a faded sticker which appears to read "??? / France". I can’t find any issues with this piece other than some very minor wear to the gilt and barely noticeable flea bites on the white raised enamel. No chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs. This stunning piece is quite impressive and displays beautifully….Please study all photos as they are part of the description and might reveal something I missed. Questions? Concerns?
