Antique sterling silver pin cushion / box

Description: For sale I have an Antique horseshoe shape pin cushion / trinket box / jewellery box dating to 1895 and made by the renowned William Comyns (London) It has a sterling silver frame in the horseshoe shape which has a combination of scrolls, cherubs and trellis interspersed with tiny flowers and leaves. The hallmark is clear and is in the design, with WC, U for 1895 and the leopard passant for London. The trellis allows the velvet beneath to be seen.The silver is in very good condition thanks to a quality maker. There are no pricks through the silver on the prominences and when held up to the light the only gaps are the ones that should be there in the trellis sections. There is slight rubbing due to cleaning over the years, but this is very little. Silver weight alone (without the box) is 39.6grams. The box itself has a wider base and hinged lid. The original cushion had been removed and replacement fabrics applied. This was all stripped back and revealed that the box was originally covered in a burgundy velvet. This has now been reinstated, along with the cushion which is crushed walnut shell, as would have been when it first left the factory, affording protection to the pins from rust. The interior has been covered in burgundy silk and a self coloured braid supports the weight of the lid when open and prevents strain on the hinge. The base also is covered in burgundy silk. The silver frame has been cleaned and can easily be slid from the box to clean periodically ( it should never be cleaned in situ and once clean should be washed and dried before putting back - The buyer will be given instructions for cleaning the silver easily). If you hate cleaning silver then it can be lacquered at the buyers request before it is sent out. (same process as is done for brassware on clock faces or anywhere that would be difficult to clean) Dimensions are 11cm long x 9.5cm wide x 8cm at its tallest.
