Description: Antique Mason's "Improved" MALTESE CROSS Aqua Blue 7" Glass Jar This jar has sat with others on a pantry shelf for many years, no longer being used for food preservation, but for display. I don't collect antique jars, but I did have quite a display of antique kitchen primitives and crocks that the jars I am selling displayed with beautifully. Therefore, I can't tell you much more than what I see as I haven't researched them or actively collected them. I purchased them originally for their aesthetics, old age, and design if it was not the run of the mill Mason or Ball jars that I used all the time for canning. This jar has quite a few little bubbles, one bigger bubble, some scratches, wear...... all faults I believe are expected in antique utilitarian glass. Aside from the usual there is a scant bit of edge roughness inside the top opening lip, and also a small meandering crack thru the threads onto the thread base ledge. It doesn't go down into the body of the jar and sits on the side away from the logo front so not noticed. Probably from overtightening at some point when it was being actively used, or got knocked when it was hot. It has been there all the many years I've had the jar, and it's tight - the glass doesn't shift. I've handled it numerous times cleaning, and dusting, without issue. So not a perfect antique jar, but a very nice display antique jar..... especially if you don't have one in your collection. Not noticeable at all sitting on a shelf for display purposes, you have to be looking down on it more from the top and looking for it to see it. I don't have a lid that fits this jar. If it had a lid on it, it wouldn't be seen at all, I don't think. Regardless, sold as-is. Shipping: USPS with tracking, insurance. Very carefully packaged with lots of paper and extra cardboard around it. Thanks for Looking!
