A really interesting coin As always, Please use the Pictures as your judge as grading is subjective. Notes: Panormos (Panormos) (Ziz) was an ancient city of Sicily and it was the most important of all the Phoenician towns on Sicily. It is located in mondern Palermo. While originally a Phoenician city, its Greek name shows that here as everywhere else in Sicily the Greek language was still predominant in early times. In B.C. 254 Panormus was captured by the Romans, under whose rule it retained its municipal freedom, and remained for many years one of the principal cities of the island. Coinage Before the repulse of the Carthaginians at Himera, in B.C. 480, no coins whatever were struck at Panormus as no Phoenician people had in those early days adopted the use of money. Due to the victory of Gelon at Himera the Greeks were able to extend their language and civilization even to the Phoenician settlements in the western portion of the island. In a transitional period the coins of Panormus bear for the most part Greek inscriptions. However a few coins have the Punic inscr. ציץ (ziz) or שבעל ציץ (shbaal ziz) , of which many explanations have been offered, the most probable is simply that Ziz was the Phoenician name for the city of Panormus.
