IVNER, Scalloped & Embossed w/GOLD Trim, circa 1931-1950 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful charger plate was manufactured by the Bareuther & Co. and decorated by artist H. Ivner with large, pink cabbage roses and their buds nestled in their green leaves. The washes behind the roses vary from mauve to grey to green. The charger is scalloped and embossed with a heavy gold trim line on the rim. Its size is commanding and makes a bold statement. CONDITION: While this charger is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The charger has a diameter of 12" and a height of 1 1/2". HISTORY/MARKS: Johann Mathaus Riess founded the porcelain factory in 1866 in Waldsassen, Bavaria, Germany. They produced household & table porcelain. In 1884, his son sold the factory to Max Jena, Erst Ploss and Oskar Bareuther. The factory was converted to a joint stock company in 1904 producing table and hotel porcelain and the name was changed to Bareuther & Co. AG. The company had many years of success employing over 650 by WWII as one of the top players in the porcelain industry, setting standards in quality assurance and investment strategies. But, during the war the facility was nearly completely destroyed and the former impressive workforce was shattered. After the war, it was constantly expanding until it became the 6th ranked German porcelain manufacturer with over 1000 employees. From 1990 onwards, competition from low wage countries caused the company to file for bankruptcy in 1994. The mark on this charger is identified by Robert E. Rontgen’s Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain 1710 to the Present as mark #823 which was used in the 1931-1950 time period.
