Description: Boyd’s Crystal Art Glass Owl in Rubina - color #7 in the series, made on June 1, 1979. Rubina is a beautiful multi colored glass which has become highly sought after by collectors. As you can see in the photos, it is also UV reactive. The formula for Rubina glass contains chemicals that enable the glass to change color when it is reheated. When this owl came out of the mould, it was reheated in the glazer, producing a rainbow of color in the finished piece - blue, green, yellow / amber and red. The chemicals are expensive and it is a tricky color to make because everything needs to be done just right - Boyd Glass was one of the few companies to make items in Rubina. This piece is in excellent used condition, with no chips or cracks. Genuine Boyd Glass, marked with he B in a diamond logo on the left side of the base. Rubina is a variable color and all of the owls tend to run on the darker side. They are best displayed with strong light behind and underneath, like in a lighted display case, but a sunny window will also work!
