This showy bloomer will survive in full sun or partial shade, but blooms will remain bright longer in partial shade. When Brazilian Cloak begins blooming in Autumn, it produces long (nearly 12 inch) stalks laden with bright red bracts. When many landscapes become barren in the cooler months, yours could remain vibrant with beds heavily accented by the bright red flowers of Brazilian Cloak. These plants have broad, light green leaves and grow quickly to make a stunning informal tropical hedge. To encourage a bushy growth pattern, lightly prune the shrub into the desired form after blooms have expired. Brazilian Cloak can suffer from frost damage if exposed but is quick to recover and rarely incurs long term damage.
